Daemon 2

  1. DAEMON 2 - A black Ink and gray pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size vellum paper. It is part of the "Daemon" series I started for "Fantastic Stories"

My text for the story appeared in white ink across the bottom portion of the illustration:

"We know not what strange land will be our last, nor care. The treasure found is less to us than the treasure sought. We are lured by far off places, eager to seek love and danger, and just as eager to shout farewell". . .

Most authors that I've read about, like the great Ray Bradbury, spent years trying to write stories good enough to be published in books or professional magazines. Bradbury had to deal with lots of rejection slips, it took him a lot of time and effort before he became an "author". And he had help from published authors like Leigh Brackett and Henry Kuttner!

And yet, Lester del Rey, another favorite writer of mine sold the very first story he wrote to "Astounding Science Fiction," proving it can be done. Knowing that, I decided to make the effort. But I will never know if I had it in me to be a "writer" because the project was stopped when the magazine folded.
